About Me

Bonetender

First of all I am a human being, a man, a father, a son, a husband and a friend. I play guitar. Below, you can find my musical history summed up in some paragraphs.

My music is influenced by everything I’ve listened to during my life, mainly Alternative, Indie, Rock, Hardcore, Jazz, Psychedelic, Classical, both, old and new music. My music is with guitars and often Fuzz.

Guitarists that influenced me most are J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr and Frank Zappa. Both I would consider as my idols if you’d like to say so. However, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Frisell, Mick Ronson, John Scofield, Neil Young, Mike Stern, Jimmy Page, John Abercrombie, David Gilmour and many, many more, they all have given something to me, which I kept. I can’t list them all!

What is style? Someone once said, that style is the lack of technique. If this would really be the case, then I have lots of style! Genres are nothing to me! I play all genres with my finite abilities, my limitations, with my style!

My father was from the Bill Haley generation but seemed to have forgotten most of this. There was some Elvis Presley around, but just occasionally. I was raised mainly with German “Schlager” Music from the 50s, 60s and 70s which was also my mothers favourite style.

My first guitar was a Nylon Classical one that my parents bought me together with a self learning book (German folkloric music), when I was about 11 or 12 after complaining that I want to start playing guitar. This didn’t convince me as this sounded so completely different to the brilliant and stunning music which I have heard out of the locked room of the older sister of a school mate (The Beatles). I quit after 2 months and for the next years I focused on listening to music, lots of Frank Zappa (God!!!), Jazz (Davis, Scofield, Coltrane, Brecker …), Classical (Bach, Stravinsky …), and of course all the rock, pop and whatever music of this period.

Bonetender 1990s

Becoming 20, next try, I bought my first electric and an amp and a distortion pedal. I never took lessons and just started to produce noise. I never learned to play all the standard folk and rock guitar songs which resulted me in being the worst camp fire guitarist you could think of. I always only played my own stuff. During the 80s, two good friends of mine, a brilliant Jazz guitarist and a brilliant Classical guitarist (am I a lucky guy!?!?!) now and then showed me some chords, talked about music and let me listen and watch to their fantastic playing while hanging around with them, having lots of beer. Then the first and second band in the 80s and 90s . After the second band broke late 90s I sold all my equipment and quit playing.

Then 2011, having a baby, I bought an acoustic for some lullaby but my baby didn’t like it.

Fortunetely my friend and former singer of the second band motivated me 2015 to restart playing and later, to start recording and that’s where I am now.

Since mid 2016 I am on Soundcloud and publish my own solo recordings and also collaborations with great people and talented musicians all around the world. What great opportunities the internet gives us in this respect! I don’t want to miss the exchange with those fantastic people any more! I have received so much feedback from you all when having started to publish pieces of music and I am grateful and happy to have returned to my roots.

Thank you all for listening and your support!
